Biography

The Thai Bass-Baritone was born in Bangkok, Thailand in 1995. He is currently a member of the Lyon Opera Studio from 2022 to 2024. In 2022, Pete participated in the Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival.

He completed his Master's degree at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, studying under the guidance of world-renowned sopranos KS. Krassimira Stoyanova and KS. Angelika Kirchschlager. Prior to that, he obtained his Bachelor's degree from Mozarteum University Salzburg, studying with Prof. Mario Diaz.

      Pete Thanapat was a participant of the Final round in the renowned 2022 Neue Stimmen Competition. He won the 2nd prize of the 26. Ferrruccio Tagliavini International singing Competition and was a finalist in the 40th Belvedere international singing competition in 2022. Additionally Pete won the Perry Nelson prize in the 11th International Hilde Zadek singing competition and he was a finalist of the 6th Otto Edelmann International singing competition. He was chosen as one of the participant in the SWR Junge Opernstars 2023 in Kaiserslautern and Landau in Germany.         

   He has recently performed as Holzhacker in Humperdinck’s Königskinder at the Tirol festival 2023. He features in various operas in his upcoming season at the Opera de Lyon, including Der Einarmige in Die Frau ohne Schatten, Quinault in Adriana Lecouvreur, Larkens in La fanciulla del west and Don Pedro in Beatrice et Benedict.            

   In his first season (2022-2023) at the Opera Studio of Lyon, he successfully performed the role of Biterolf in Tannhäuser, a cover of Phanuel and performed as Grand Prête in Hérodiade. He was Tsar Ivan, Inquisitor, Crouper and Señor in Candide and he finished his first season with Antonio in Le nozze di Figaro During his time in the young singers project in Salzburg, he performed the title role of der Teufel in Der Teufel mit den drei goldenen Haare by Stefan Hanke. He also presented the public masterclass with Malcolm Martineau as well as worked with Piotr Beczala.             

   He made his first international debut in 2014 as Maestro Spinelloccio and Nataio(Gianni Schicchi) with the Sommer Opera in Bergen, Norway. During his young age, he performed in several university’s productions, including il Conte in Le nozze di Figaro and Ottone in L’incoronazione di poppea, as well as Marcello in La boheme and Belcore in L’elisir d’amore. He was the regular guest soloist of the Salzburg Dom Cathedral.        

   He started studying in a music college at the age of 15 in Thailand before he moved to Salzburg, Austria at the age of 18. He is very well educated both theoretically and practically. He is a native Thai speaker and is fluent in both English and German. Additionally, he has a good level of proficiency in Italian and possesses basic knowledge of French and Russian.
